i have been thinking about Revelation 3:16 lately and all of a sudden it makes sense. God would rather have us say i don’t believe, i am not a Christian before he wants us to be cold, a ‘fake Christian’ who sits around claiming to be a follower and a member of the God fan club.

God never called for admirers people who give a sporadic applause, he called for disciples, for followers, but not the numbering kind of followers. he wants the tribe kind of followers, not the fan club kind. He wants the ready to walk the way he did kind, the ready to be rejected kind, the willing to suffer kind, the ready to forgoe their life kind, the prepared to die kind.

in todays world of twitter, facebook and tumblr we forget what to be a follower means that their is a claim on you. that a follower aspires to become the God that they admire. we must put our bare feet into the dust and muck. we must put our feet into his print and we must feel the bulk of the cross pressing on our back and its bark rubbing on our bare skin. we have to taste suffering, poverty and disdain—-now, today, right now. not tomorrow. not later. now.

a real follower does not just point, click and sit back; real followers pay the cost.

If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23

Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.” 1 Jn. 2:6
